Hello, and welcome to the FIRST post ever of Wedded Griz!! My name is Lauren Grzymala (pronounced griz-MAH-luh), and I am a Certified Wedding & Event Planner. This blog serves as the official blog of Grzymala Galas, my signature wedding and event planning business serving Central and South-Central Pennsylvania. Here, you will find wedding planning tips, current trends, event concepts, and much more!
Now, if you had told me five years ago that I would own my own business (in the wedding industry, no less!), I probably wouldn’t have believed you. I started college as a Criminal Justice major – so pretty much, the exact opposite of what I’m doing now! I realized after a year and a half of studying Criminal Justice that my heart just wasn’t in it, and I opted to take some time off to explore my options. At the time, I was working as a part-time manager at Justice, and I took the opportunity to throw myself into my job. It was then that I realized how much I loved working with people and helping them develop their own style, down to the tiniest details.
In June 2015, I married John, my high school sweetheart who blessed me with pretty much the coolest last name ever! We moved to State College, Pennsylvania, and I transferred to the local Justice for a time, being promoted after less than a year at the new store and granted a more in-depth look at the ins and outs of business. After planning my own wedding, among various other events, it didn’t take long for me to realize that I had a passion for being a part of people’s special days.
With the encouragement of my husband (and after giving my mom a minor freak out), I began to research schools that would offer me the best education in such a specific field, but still had flexibility since I was working full-time at that point. I stumbled upon a blog post that offered several online school options, the most intriguing of which (for me) being The Wedding Planning Institute by Lovegevity. After extensive research, I enrolled in the online courses, officially taking the first step on my journey to my dream career. Two months later, a door leading directly into the industry opened, and I started a new job at Formalities by Tracina Fisher, a formalwear shop located in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. The more experience I gained in the field, the more I fell in love with my chosen career-path, and I felt more motivated than ever before to pave my own way. Six months after enrolling in my courses, I received my official certification and began to build my own small business.
In my time studying at The Wedding Planning Institute, I received perfect scores on my assignments and projects, praise from my professors for my attention to detail, had an event concept project featured on their national blog, and learned everything I needed to know about starting my own business, from wedding and event etiquette, to writing and interpreting contracts, to business and personal finance knowledge.
With certificate in hand and creativity in my heart, I cannot wait to see where owning my own business takes me. I am beyond pleased to be able to share my experience and knowledge with you, in the industry and the career I am most passionate about!
